Chairman Liu Jingzhen attended the "Implementing the Global Development Initiative and Building World-Class Enterprises" sub-forum of the 5th Hongqiao International Economic Forum and participated in discussions and exchanges.

In her video address, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, Sanda Ojiambo, stated that unprecedented global crises, climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and frequent conflicts around the world are eroding the achievements of sustainable development over the past decade. In the past two years, the world has also failed to make timely progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. "To reinvigorate global action on the Sustainable Development Goals, we need large-scale cooperation like the Global Development Initiative."

In his address, Peng Huagang, Member of the Party Committee and Secretary-General of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, introduced that enterprises of all countries, especially multinational corporations, are a vital force in implementing the Global Development Initiative. For a long time, the SASAC and the central enterprises it supervises have adhered to the concept of shared interests and sustainable development, seeking win-win cooperation in their "going global" process and striving to promote the sustained and healthy development of the world.

Peng Huagang stated that actively fulfilling social responsibilities and ensuring that more people benefit from economic development are the proper meaning of building world-class enterprises. Central enterprises are willing to participate in international division of labor and cooperation on a larger scale, in broader areas, and to a greater depth, actively promoting technological exchange and cooperation, and deeply advancing green and low-carbon transformation. While developing themselves, central enterprises will also actively promote local employment, enthusiastically engage in public welfare and charity, and support the development of people's livelihood such as medical care and education to the best of their ability, striving to improve the well-being of the local people.

Chairman Liu Jingzhen, together with guests at the event, attended the release of the "Central Enterprises' Overseas Social Responsibility Blue Book (2022)" and pointed out in the discussion that during the major battle and test of the epidemic prevention and control, Sinopharm Group always kept in mind the principle of "people first, life first," providing more than 2.5 billion pieces of various medicines and protective materials to 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China, and exporting and providing medical supplies to more than 150 countries. Focusing on the three major areas of "diagnosable, treatable, and preventable," Sinopharm Group took the lead in developing four globally leading new coronavirus diagnostic reagents; four new coronavirus特效治疗药物; and independently developed four new coronavirus vaccines through three technological approaches. More than 70 heads of state or government personally greeted Sinopharm vaccines, and more than 50 national leaders led the way in receiving Sinopharm vaccines. Currently, Sinopharm vaccines have been approved for use in 119 countries and regions and international organizations, covering 196 national populations, with domestic and international production and supply exceeding 3.5 billion doses. This has fulfilled China's solemn commitment to the global public good of COVID-19 vaccines and won widespread praise from the international community.

Chairman Liu Jingzhen pointed out that accelerating the construction of world-class enterprises is a major deployment of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, and the 16-character principle of "product excellence, brand excellence, innovation leadership, and modern governance" is the goal of Chinese enterprises' efforts. Currently, Sinopharm Group ranks 80th on the Fortune Global 500 list and first among global pharmaceutical companies. In the future, Sinopharm Group will adhere to high-quality development as its primary task, accelerate the implementation of the overall development strategy plan of the "four pillars and eight columns, 100 billion" innovation-driven, full life cycle, full industrial chain, and full ecosystem, strive diligently, and forge ahead to stride towards becoming a world-class enterprise.

At the forum, the UN Global Compact officially launched its "Global Development Initiative to Support the Sustainable Development Goals" (GDI for SDG) global corporate partnership pilot projects on plastic reduction and carbon reduction, supporting the building of a community with a shared future for the ocean and climate action, via video. The forum also released the Action Plan for Implementing the Global Development Initiative and Building World-Class Enterprises.
